Most Common Mistake Leading to Back Pain

Guess what is the most common mistake people make in daily living that causes them to have back pain? It usually happens when you want to do something quickly instead of carefully. Doing this one thing causes injury to the spinal discs, leading to disc herniation and bulging, sciatic pain, and more.


This one mistake is the combination of bending and twisting. It happens frequently!


You see something on the floor that you want to pick up. It may be off to the side. You think you’ll get to it quicker by twisting and lifting. Or you think the item you’re picking up is not so heavy, so you bend from your back and lift. Or you pick up an object, and you twist to put it away.


All these scenarios are no good for your spine!


These movements will eventually cause more and more damage to your spine and can prevent you from healing if you already have an injured spine. The reason is that bending and twisting puts the spine in a precarious position causing muscle strain and ligament sprains and well as puts an unnecessary load on the disc resulting in damage to the disc. The disc will start to bulge and or herniated, causing long term pain.


What can you do to avoid this situation?

Learn an important lifting technique to avoid the strain and damage. So here are the steps of good lifting technique:

  1. Face the item you’re picking up.
  2. Bend at your knees and hips. Avoid bending your back.
  3. Bring the item close to you.
  4. Lift with your legs.
  5. Avoid twisting. Turn your entire body to place the item where you want it to be and place the item down.

Always keep this technique in mind next time you decide to lift or pick up something. You’ll protect your spine and prevent you from suffering from the pain of injury.
